The Story of Photographer Gailė Juknytė Confirms that Laser Eye Surgery Saves in Unforeseen Cases

Laser eye surgery is becoming an increasingly popular choice for patients complaining of poor vision due to highly developed eye surgery technologies and the long-term experience of doctors. It is often applied to eliminate the daily discomfort of wearing glasses or contact lenses. Still, only some think that laser vision correction can save under challenging circumstances.

According to microsurgeon Vaida Švedienė, an ophthalmologist at the eye clinic “Lirema”, to find out whether laser eye surgery is possible, the patient is first invited to come to a consultation, during which all full vision tests are performed.

“We ask whether the patient has other diseases that can affect vision, lifestyle, type of work, and favourite activities are discussed. After evaluating the factors mentioned above and examinations, it is advised which method of laser vision correction is the best to choose,” says the microsurgeon.

After the doctor assesses that it is safe for the patient to undergo laser eye surgery, the date of the operation is adjusted. Photographer Gailė Juknytė named laser eye correction as a significantly awaited important life event.

“For a long time, I wanted to perform this procedure and improve my quality of life. I live an active life – I travel a lot and like going to festivals and observing the world and the environment. My biggest passion is photography. For this reason, the eyes work very intensively, but the vision of -4 diopters sometimes causes great inconvenience,” G. Juknytė shares her experience.

The day that led to the decision

“As today, I remember one morning, while I was still lying in bed in my house in Bali, an earthquake started. I didn’t have time to put in my contact lenses, so my first thought was to grab their container and glasses and run outside because if I leave them at home, I won’t be able to see anything,” recalls G. Juknytė.

It was a fateful day that made her think about life changes. According to the girl, another event that led to laser eye surgery was a surfing adventure in the open sea.

“When the wave came up, I fell into the water, and the next wave washed out one of my contact lenses. I had to swim to the shore seeing with one eye and feeling great pain. In the evening, I had a bad headache”, says G. Juknytė.

Laser eye surgery provides an opportunity to forget the tiring everyday life of wearing glasses or contact lenses. These successful examples in the close environment made the girl optimistic.

“I was looking forward to the surgery. I wasn’t worried because my dad and brother were having laser vision correction at the same clinic and told me everything. It was very reassuring that I was in good hands,” G. Juknytė shared her positive mood before the operation.

An experienced team of specialists provides excellent service and high-quality services.

“From the first second, I was greeted at the clinic by a very kind and caring staff. We were in constant communication during the visit, so I felt safe. I am especially grateful to the doctor who performed the operation, who told me about every step of the procedure,” recalls the photographer.

The surgery was life-changing

Each patient’s state of health and eyes is individual, so the safest standard for laser vision surgery may be one for some and another for others.

“The patient had a thin cornea, so in this case, the surface method of procedure, otherwise known as SURFACE, is recommended. After this laser vision surgery, the patient can live without glasses immediately, and the effect is achieved in a few weeks”, says doctor V. Švedienė.

According to the microsurgeon, this laser eye surgery is especially suitable for those who like an active lifestyle or engage in contact sports.

“The specialists working at the clinic do not try to offer more expensive services. The most suitable treatment methods are selected individually – this shows the professionalism of the specialists, which I highly appreciate”, says G. Juknytė.

The girl was happy with her clear vision and shared that she could return to an active rhythm of life after just three weeks – she travelled to Italy and swam in pools.

“After laser eye correction, I can admire the world again and do my favourite activities without fear that some accident will happen while wearing glasses or contact lenses. I encourage everyone to take care of themselves and improve the quality of life by deciding on the procedure”, says G. Juknytė.

According to microsurgeon V. Švedienė, all laser eye surgery methods achieve the same result. Only the course of the procedure and the eye healing period differ.

“For those hesitating about which correction method to choose, we invite you to come for a consultation first. During it, more information is provided about the different methods. An individual assessment is made to evaluate the safest method, and the patient’s expectations are discussed to choose the one”, summarizes V. Švedienė.
